Gnarly and twisted the wind splits a path
Below fungus fruits and the mosses lay mats
A shield of bark only hangs from one side
And this old tree is still reaching for the sky

Chipmunk’s chattin about the log he calls home
Leaves do the breathing while the roots find a meal
Lightning always strikes all alone on this hill

Tell it like you see it if you trust in your eyes
Tell it like they told it if you trust in the wise
Tell it like the star constellations in the skies
And out of the darkness some truth will surprise

In times of suppression you gotta take it underground
Hide it in the mountains where they’ll never track it down
Plant it for the children and sing on every hill
The Folk are alive, here to love and fulfill

Looking at the stars wondering how we found home
Earth needed eyes and the folk needed word
Then we danced to the things that we heard

Well, time passes and the stories grow long
They thicken and they widen and they carry on strong
They might lose their meaning if the folks lose their heads
But the universe remembers every word that was said
The teachers may be cactus, the teachers may be vines
There will be no textbook, it’s spoken in your mind
Movement and the healing ceremonies and the songs
Helps the tree branches and the roots to grow strong
